The Football Federation of Rio de Janeiro (FERJ) joined the expanding list of world-leading football organisations to embrace Hawk-Eye’s Video Assistant Review (VAR) technology.
VAR was used in last night’s Taça Guanabara’s championship match when Vasco da Gama defeated Fluminense at iconic Estádio Maracanã, host of two FIFA World Cups and the recent 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
VAR had been used earlier last the week for the semi-final matches between Vasco da Gama and Resende, and between Fluminense and Flamengo, following a successful technology test carried out last Tuesday.
The outcome was extremely positive and left FERJ officials confident that the technology provider had been the correct partner of choice for the introduction of VAR in the state championship.
José L. Kruyff, Managing Director of Latin America at Hawk-Eye Innovations, says "We are extremely proud to be working in partnership with one of the most prestigious competitions in the world and in a region which is so highly regarded for its achievements in football."
