We are very pleased to announce that Hawk-Eye Innovations has been shortlisted by the 2017 Sports Technology Awards (STA) in the category of Most Innovative Sports Partnership alongside the KNVB.
The STA commented: “over 70 sports were represented and submissions were received from 30 countries. The standards were as high as ever but even more international and varied. The innovations these entries represented were nothing short of very impressive.”
The partnership between the KNVB and Hawk-Eye began in 2013 when Hawk-Eye visited the KNVB in Holland to discuss the introduction of Goal Line Technology (GLT) into the Eredivisie. During this meeting the KNVB stressed the importance of introducing a technology that could be used to get the “game-changing” decisions in football correct, namely red cards, penalties, and fouls. It was in this meeting that Hawk-Eye proposed the use of video assistants for football using a protocol that wouldn’t significantly delay the game, and the concept of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was born.
The technology involved in this entry is Hawk-Eye’s Synchronised Multi-Angle Replay Technology (SMART), a video replay and distribution technology that puts control of every broadcast camera angle into the hands of those who need it the most: officials, coaches, analysts and medics.
After 3 years of blind testing and lobbying with the KNVB, Hawk-Eye are proud to be the partner for 7 of the 8 leagues that have now signed up to Phase 1 testing and nominated their technical partner.
With over 15 years’ experience in delivering officiating services to the world’s premier sporting events, Hawk-Eye strives to innovate, push the boundaries and provide increasingly advanced solutions that go beyond the original requirements.
