Press Release

Athens, Greece / Basingstoke, United Kingdom, August 20, 2025 - Hawk-Eye Innovations, a Sony Group company, has entered a multi-year partnership with the Hellenic Football Federation (HFF) and Super League Greece as the exclusive Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and Semi-Automated Offside Technology (SAOT) provider for domestic competitions including the Super League and the Greek Cup..

The agreement follows the highly successful adoption of Semi-Automated Offside Technology and Goal Line Technology during the 2024/25 Stoiximan Super League Championship Playoffs and the Greek Cup Final.

Hawk-Eye will deliver VAR services across all stadiums, and also VAR Training for operators, referees and officials. SAOT utilises 10 calibrated cameras in every stadium for optical tracking purposes, to generate precise offside calls by analysing player position through 29 skeletal points on each player’s body, as well as ball movement, all within seconds.

As already seen in the 2024/25 Championship Playoffs, by drastically reducing the time required for offside reviews, the technology minimises game interruptions, enhances the flow of the match and delivers unparalleled accuracy in offside decision-making.

All operations will be coordinated and supervised remotely from the VAR Remote Centre located in Athens.

The provision of these innovative officiating services reinforces the League’s role as an innovator in European football, for it enables consistent, accurate, and faster decisions on pitch.

Tony Page, Managing Director of Football at Hawk-Eye Innovations said: “We’re incredibly proud and excited by this multi-year agreement, and are committed to supporting Super League Greece and the Hellenic Football Federation in delivering the highest standards of officiating through the 2025/26 season and beyond. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in enhancing the accuracy, fairness, and overall integrity of the game in Greece.”

Katia Koxenoglou, Deputy President of Super League Greece said: “The Board of Directors of Super League Greece unanimously approved the implementation of the VAR and Semi-Automated Offside technologies, in all matches of the Stoiximan Super League Championship 2025-26, following up on the successful use of these tools during last season's playoffs. In order to upgrade the consistency and accuracy of referee decisions, Super League Greece has decided to partner with Hawk Eye Innovations, a leader in football technologies, with a proven track record in UEFA Competitions and top-flying football Leagues, to further enhance the integrity and referee decision-making process in all Stoiximan Super League Championship 2025-26 matches”.
